Cookie policy for Hotjar

Which cookies Hotjar sets and how to describe them without a generic banner.

Hotjar and cookies

Hotjar is in the session replay category. On sites we scan, it shows up through static.hotjar.com, hotjar.com, script.hotjar.com. Its role is to record sessions or heatmaps.

Data that may be processed: Clicks, scrolls, and session recordings or heatmaps, plus a Hotjar identifier cookie. The vendor describes the location as: European Union (Hotjar). Their public privacy or data-processing terms are at https://www.hotjar.com/legal/policies/privacy/.

Documented cookie or storage names in our signature: _hj*. If the scan of your URL sees a different name, the generated cookie policy lists the name that was actually set.

Hotjar loads from static.hotjar.com and sets cookies beginning with _hj. If recordings are on, say that clicks and page text may be captured, and how a visitor can opt out in the browser.

Group them

Put sign-in and payment storage in one group. Put analytics, session replay, and advertising in another. A visitor should be able to tell which of those groups this service belongs to. TermsPack files each detected vendor into those groups from the signature list.

TermsPack generates templates from what we detect on your site. This is not legal advice and does not create an attorney–client relationship. Have a lawyer review documents for your situation.
