Cookie policy for Google Analytics

Which cookies Google Analytics sets and how to describe them without a generic banner.

Google Analytics and cookies

Google Analytics is in the analytics category. On sites we scan, it shows up through www.google-analytics.com, analytics.google.com, region1.google-analytics.com. Its role is to measure traffic and on-site events.

Data that may be processed: Pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser data, and the identifiers in Google's analytics cookies. The vendor describes the location as: United States and other countries where Google processes Analytics data. Their public privacy or data-processing terms are at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Documented cookie or storage names in our signature: _ga, _ga*, _gid. If the scan of your URL sees a different name, the generated cookie policy lists the name that was actually set.

GA4 is usually loaded through googletagmanager.com/gtag/js and sets a _ga cookie. That is Google Analytics, not merely 'a tag'. If you also load gtm.js, name Google Tag Manager separately, because it can fire more tags than the one you remember adding.

Group them

Put sign-in and payment storage in one group. Put analytics, session replay, and advertising in another. A visitor should be able to tell which of those groups this service belongs to. TermsPack files each detected vendor into those groups from the signature list.

TermsPack generates templates from what we detect on your site. This is not legal advice and does not create an attorney–client relationship. Have a lawyer review documents for your situation.
